"He conceded that his wife remained "fragile" and had struggled to deal with the loss of Madeleine, who vanished a few days before her fourth birthday. "
In my opinion this doesn't come across as if his daughter has been abducted, sounds either like they've mislaid her like a bunch of keys (how careless - now where do you remember last seeing her?) or are talking about someone who has died.

Welcome to the forum, vanilla! We are very civilised on here and we don't tolerate casual cruelty to anyone, including the bereaved parents. I'm sure if you obey this guideline you'll settle in here famously!

Ignore Vilipend. The forum rules say we have to have at least one McCann supporter per thread to try and disrupt it.
Yes I found the word loss odd. As you say, like talking about someone who's died...
Aweel, neither sympathy nor the English language are jerry's strongpoints.
After all, he did blog about the situation which his almost-four-year-old daughter had gotten herself into, on that fateful PDL night, as he and the other McTapas were playing chug-a-lug and 20 questions.

Looks as though you've just found your 'niche' in life. Made your mind up that the McCanns are guilty already - 'doesn't come across.'[/quote]
Nicholass, why don't you slip into your missing-Madeleine commemorative T-shirt and go sit in the bath tub and play with your Titanic set? History seems destined to repeat itself, and you and the Mccanns and the HTFM will soon disappear beneath the waves of public odium.
Statement from the Board of Madeleine’s Fund- Leaving No Stone Unturned 09 January 2008
BEGINS
‘There was a scheduled board meeting of Madeleine’s Fund today. We have reached a new longer- term phase in the search for Madeleine and we have reviewed how effective our Fund has been in pursuing its objectives. We agreed to continue our funding of the investigation to find Madeleine and we have decided to look at further media opportunities to support our search. To that end, we have invited two new directors to replace the two who stepped down, for business and personal reasons, We, together with Kate and Gerry McCann, extend our thanks to Esther and Phillip for their hard work and continuing support. We welcome Edward Smethurst and Jon Corner to the board to lend their expertise in commercial law and media.”

So Clarries new boss gets his lawyer a space on the Board, {as a financial backer for the legal defense and since Smethhurst is co-ordinating their legal teams, isn't this a conflict of interest?} and Jon Corner {of Panorama fame} also bags a seat. --- You couldn't make this stuff up.
