I have revisited everything on the sky mews site about this case, and i notice that nobody realised why gerry said it was like dining in his back garden.
It was nothing to do with him wanting anyone to think the distance was like in a back garden.
It is because in the sentence before this he said "We should not be afraid of predators targetting our own homes and gardens".
He then reinforced predator in our own garden by saying that they dined as if in their own back garden.(the idea of the predator again rather than woke and wandered).
This misfired spectacularly when nobody understood what he meant.
For moths i have thought ot was a reference to the length of the garden as well.
How many people have a road running through their garden? Or when they dine in their back garden, have to go into a gated complex to do so?? No one I think.

I think you must be more hungover or slightly more sozzled than me, so forgive me if I misunderstand.
I think the length of the garden has been discussed before, someone looked it up on googlemap after it was updated recently, and it's a short square one.
Mine is a big square one, and if it's summer (when you would be dining outdoors) the windows would always be open, but any kids/babies at our "garden parties" were all out there with us, asleep in carry cots or running around having a good time.
As they got older, they and their friends used to enjoy sleeping out in tents in the garden....sounds horribly dangerous now, but again, even when they were fourteen and fifteen, you'd have all the windows open so you could hear if anyone called for help.
In general I think all Gerry's words are ****, but I'm not entirely sure that isn't because he hasn't spent any meaningful time with his kids (same with Kate). So they come over as total di ckhead parents to anyone who has raised their kids till school age before getting a menial/minimal job and be home to pick up the kids from school
It beggars belief thet the government can p**t on about "Family values" whilst ensuring nobody can actually afford to spend the time raising their babies til school age. Should be don't blame the parents, blame the childminders and nurseries! (I apologies for the generalisation to all carers for kids) If you don't see your under fives between breakfast and bedtime, how the hell are you likely to have influenced them in any way?
i didnt say he hadnt also lied abot the length of the back garden but i really think that quote was taken out of contect and he wanted everyone to be aware of the predator (who i dont believe exists)

Just thinking back to G's odd phrasing of many things, imo almost as if he is trying to base his statements on something that is true...
- their previous house (the one that the "stolen" wallet was returned to) is on an exclusive, gated development on the outskirts of the village. There is a long drive and the houses have small private gardens, with shared access to large, landscaped, communal grounds.
perhaps he has imaginary abductors running around in his own back garden ?
that is what he would like you to beleive, yes."we should not have to be afraid of predators targetting our own gardens. We were dining as if in our back garden"
eg there was a predator in the back garden
my mistake i misworded his quote in my opening statement.Apologies.
