Joined: Mon Jan 07, 2008 9:53 pm Posts: 3067 | i keep reading posts about them being off work but cant find anything that says they have returned
how on earth are they living then? not that it is my business or concern
and why exactly would they be off work for a year?
not much been said about mr obrien - it all keeps fading into oblivion but is he the link in this chain? has he told the police something which also prevents him returning to work? like admitting that he did something and that is why he supported kate and gerry because they knew too?
i am not trying to tarnish the mans reputation here but if he has not gone back to work there has to be a really good reason why you would allow yourself to be broke! (or with less income anyhow)
or am i totally wrong?

Jane Tanner was not working at the time of Madeleine's disappearance. The family moved to Exeter in mid-January 2007 and Jane was on a 'career break'. I have no idea about O'Brien.

Maybe they are victims of McCanns plot. I think McCanns used their friends shamelessly. Maybe ROB and JT are generally generous and helpful personalities and they were exploited - who knows?

Jane Tanner/O'Brien knew Gerry and Kate well prior to the trip because IIRC, they were all in Amsterdam together.
The only ones that I am aware of who only had a casual relationship with the McCanns were the Paynes.
If I am incorrect, someone please correct. TIA

If I am incorrect, someone please correct. TIA You are correct. Oldfield ws supported by Gerry in a case of mis/late diagnosis. Elderly man who subsequently died. <!-- m --> http://web.archive.org/web/20080723040316/http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070811082412AApzZOt<!-- m --> From Sol report Rachell Manpilly is 36 and she is married to Matthew Oldfield. The couple has a daughter, who was only 18 months old when Madeleine McCann disappeared. But now even so the Oldfields asked for the Ocean Club’s babysitting service. Matthew met Gerry McCann when both doctors worked together at a hospital in Leicester. Matt has a pending accusation for medical negligence in that hospital, after a late diagnosis resulted in the death of a patient. This was not the first time the Oldfields spent their holidays with this group. The last trip had been to Greece – where they also stayed in a resort of the Ocean Club’s group – but that time Gerry and Kate did not accompany them.

maybe that WOULD be malpractice and i am sure that doctors do cover things up - well of course they do for heavens sake - just like teachers social workers police - whether they are honest or not there are things people in those professions just have to turn a blink eye to

It might be a very long time since he has had to actively deal with acute or emergency cases, and might even be a bit shaky with normal first aid. (No, I'm not kidding - if you want a cheap laugh, try getting an academic medic, as opposed to a paramedic or nurse to deal with, say, putting a shoulder joint back or resuscitation.)
