SUNDAY MIRROR: “Tapas 7 in despair at all the ‘lies’”
They say they are also called the Tapas Nine? And the Sangria Seven
“The Tapas Seven are “in meltdown” over the failure of Portuguese police to make any meaningful progress in the hunt for Madeleine”
“IT’S OUR D-DAY - McCanns return to Portugal - EXCLUSIVE Kate and Gerry set date in April for Algarve showdown They’ll tell cops: show your evidence or clear us for good”. Like that D-Day back on November?
“Despairing Kate and Gerry McCann are planning to return to Portugal for a face-to-face showdown with police who think they killed their daughter Madeleine”
They are going back. Now..?
Well, not exactly: “A close friend said the the couple were likely to go back after their ‘D-Day’ of April 11, when their three-month extension is up, and added: ‘They feel they’ve waited long enough with this cloud of suspicion hanging over them. They know their return would be very high-profile. They believe investigators do not have the evidence against them to bring charges, and their presence in Portugal would embarrass them. They’ve so far held off going back there, but they see it as their trump card”
They will go back once they have been allowed to see the police first on them
Says the paper’s source: “They see April 11 as their D-day. They have decided to give the police reasonable time to clear them, or at least open the case files so they can see the evidence against them”
They asked for a showdown last August and they certainly got it. I am not sure this is a good move although I can understand the frustration.
+++
What's the best "move" for Madeleine?I wonder. This is crazy. Thanx for your reply Enlight'
Maybe this time they won't be so c0cksure about their preparations for that date. Their recent deadline turned into a fiasco after they assumed they would be cleared and had lined up lucrative media and entertainment contracts to coincide with that.
I think the McCanns need reminding that the PJ don't have to clear them on 11 April. PJ can apply for further extensions, charge them with neglect or something more serious or simply mothball the case for up to 20 years so is it really worth the McCanns antagonising the PJ even more?
IMO I don't see how the PJ can drop the case given the indicative evidence they have. Surely better for them to mothball the case and wait perhaps for a few years to see if fresh evidence emerges. In complex cases like this it's not unheard of for evidence to emerge many years later.
They are desperate because, after all this months and so many inquiries they are not sure on what they have declared before to the Police.
They NEED to see the police files, so they can prepare themselves to new inquiries.
But that can only occurr in April, when the process against them will be public.
Yes that's it,they WANT to see the whole file ,but since when PRIME SUSPECTS would be allowed this?

Not so, bluebabe. Under the Portuguese system, there are some limitations on how much investigation can be done once someone is formally charged. Unless there is an issue of public safety involved (maniac running around with a gun, for example), they try to have the investigation as nearly as complete as possible before charges are laid. One reason for this is that, once charges are filed, it is very difficult to "charge up." In the UK it only requires the filing of pieces of paper. In Portugal, if one wants to add another offence to those already charged, one must open a new case file and re-do the entire case administratively.
OMG, if your child went missing in another country wouldn't that *compel* you to be back there at every opportunity, just so that you could feel close to him or her.
