I am relieved and very, very sad.
What kind of triumph is it to have been correct about the death of a beautiful child, the cover-up and international scam, the willingness of an entire group of doctors to allow innocent people to be accused?
What triumph is there in being right that there really are, in this world, people like the McCanns and their friends?
I'd rather be celebrating a homecoming for Maddy and having to admit I was wrong.

I do see your point.
However, do you see no similarities with .. for example .. the January sales ? Where retailers hound you via unsolicited catalogues and brochures dumped in your mail-box and blast you out of your own living-room with screaming commercials to buy their wares ? Those are 'advertising campaigns'.
The McCann scam is a 'campaign'. A campaign to sell you the story of a 'missing' child in 'another country' with suspicious-seeming parents and their friends .. and possibly a shady character with a 'funny eye' (allegedly missing child had one too ... odd that, isn't it ? ) who may have 'abducted' her.
You're *accustomed* to retailers' advertising campaigns. But this is very likely the first 'Missing Child' campaign to which you've been subjected.
If there were as many 'Missing Child' campaigns as there are ' January Sales' campaigns, you'd swiftly reach for the remote-control just as you do when the screaming commercials assault you in your own home.
Quite often, well-known celebrities tout retail goods .. people like Beckham for example, and Michael Parkinson. They're well paid. Pays better than what they 'really' do for a living, quite often. They set themselves up very nicely on the proceeds of persuading you to buy incontinence-pads and denture-cleaner, etc.
When this little PDL saga commenced --- the public didn't 'know' Gerry and Kate McCann. Their 'real living' was earned in the field of medicine.
AFTER the McCann saga has ground to its scripted conclusion ... every third person in the Western world will recognise Kate and Gerry McCann. They'll be able to set themselves up very nicely on the proceeds of whatever they choose to promote, be that Child Alert or microchips or incontinence-pads ( ' As you know, Gerry and I nearly wet ourselves when we discovered Madeleine had been taken. Don't be caught out the way we were .. use comfortable, discreet CuddlyCat liners and you'll never be caught short .. we guarantee it, ya know '.
This is a production .. the logical next-step to Big Brother. And today's public are the initiates. They used something with which virtually everyone could identify as the 'hook' used to involve the public : a 'missing child '.
The public did identify and gave spontaneously and generously. The public doesn't enjoy being made fools of .. seeing their best intentions being manipulated so calculatingly. In order to make sense of this insane scam, many have chosen to believe it .. for who (they ask) would *invent * something as horrible as a hoaxed 'missing child ' ?
The answer is : greedy people, godless people, sheer filth.
Reserve a little disgust for them. The McCanns are merely (bad) actors playing to script. It's the script-writers who're most deserving of our disgust. But they're hiding. As they always have. Yet they'll pick up most of the profit. As they always do.
No matter what happens, there will be no winners here. A little girl is dead, and the lives of other innocent people have been damaged, some perhaps irreparably. The best we can hope for is the relief that comes with knowing justice has been done at last.
