Well the waiters at the Tapas Bar weren't so complimentary. Allegedly.
And when Kate was made an Arguido, didn't the PJ say they thought she had mental issues? Plus, didn't Mrs Fenn say she also heard Kate screaming when Madeleine cried for two hours on the 2nd? It leaves ???'s in my mind.
No, it was said they were the bestest parents in the wholewide world. Or at least better than the usual riff raff they get in from Glasgow and Liverpool.
They had only lived in Rothley a year and apparently did not make any friends locally. Gerry's boss said kind words about him (albeit his colleagues have been less complimentary, calling him an "ogre" and "a control freak"). One person from the clinic Kate worked at part-time said she was nice. Then the rest of the complimentary comments have come from people who either grew up with Kate as a child, or who played football with Gerry in New Zealand (two players and the coach).
I have heard that apart from her crazy party days in medical school, Kate was pretty shy and that Gerry has always been gregarious but at the same time rather full of himself, because he was the youngest and he was relatively spoiled by his older brothers and sisters. The man is nearly 40 and his brothers and sisters still refer to him as "wee Gerry".
It seems to me the couple were too pre-occupied with being "perfect" - having a perfect house, perfect cars, perfect kids - to make friends.
So what is all this about the tapas 7, and critisism of them going to Ireland en masse?

So does this mean they thought Jerry was Shrek?
And therefore would Mike Myers play J in the movie?
With the exception of Kate`s dad last week and her mum`s "Hello "magazine article earlier last month I am surprised that no one else has stepped forward to offer" positive "character references on behalf of either of them......e.g close friends /neighbours/colleagues...[save their spokesman CM and various TV/radio presenters/newspaper journalists] . You wonder why this is....
aren't you more surprised that nobody whom ever knew them before hasn't come forward to express any concerns about them?
and why not
because nobody who knows them / knew them - has any doubt that they are innocent.

On the contrary I think Kate has many friends, particularly 'youth' friends. It amazes me is that Kate has managed to maintain so many friendships throughout the years. This does her credit and certainly doesn't reflect the 'cold' person the media has portrayed. Who here has still maintained contact with school friends? She still has contact with at least three childhood friendships Linda McQueen and Nicky Gill and Michelle, wife of John Corner. Keeping contact even after several periods of residing abroad (Scotland, New Zealand and The Netherlands) Nicky Gill dropped everything and was with her in PDL within days! Gill Renwick has spoken on many occasions. Fiona Payne extended her holiday and stayed with Kate in PDL. Of all the Tapas 7 she lives the closest to Kate so seem to have built up a good friendship. Jane Tanner was with Kate when Madeleine was born so is also very close. How did Kate find the time to maintain all these friendships I wonder? What with working and having 3 young children (plus all the house moves). I stress I am no fan of Kate, but these woman hardly would speak for Kate if she wasn't a warm and likeable person. Have we somehow mis-read her?
This is the only one I could find ---- not too flattering.
There are those, including a onetime close associate, who find him difficult and controlling, feeling he has the trademark arrogance and self-regard of many surgeons. And his judgment is certainly questionable.
thanks for posting the link SirPrize, dont think I have seen all that before.
A bit off topic but one quote astounded me
‘I wish I could roll back time and go back to the day before Madeleine was abducted. I would slow down time. I would get a really good look around and have a really good think. And I’d think: Where are you? Who are you? Who is secretly watching my family? Because someone was watching my family very, very carefully. And taking notes.’ ”
Surely if she could roll back time she would have informed the police she thought they was being watched then MADE SURE SHE DIDN'T LEAVE THE KIDS THAT NIGHT AND IT WOULDNT HAVE HAPPENED IN THE FIRST PLACE !! sorry for shouting but that really bugged me
<snip> ......but it is also equally true that no one really knows a person and in my experience I have seen fist hand examples of people who presented an image that was very different to the reality....
Thanks for all the views so far....
EXACTLY!! People compartmentalize their lives. The average murderer acts NORMALLY when others are around. That's why EVERY murderer has friends, neighbors, coworkers, relatives, and acquaintances who swear they're a "great guy!"
It's also the reason I don't put much stock into these "character attestations."
It is very true that we do not know what goes on behind closed doors and that the face that some people put on in public can be very different to the one in private...however normally close families have an inkling....
Well, we know behind the scenes that this sweet, demure woman bedecked in ribbons and rosaries flew off the handle when being questioned by the PJ and was so out of control that she threw around the F word. What kind of innocent woman would verbally abuse the police? Seriously, if she were not guilty, why would she not willingly accept the questioning so the PJ could definitively eliminate her from the investigation? If she had nothing to hide, why would she not work with the PJ (instead of consistently against them)? You would think the knowledge that these are the people she must rely on to help her cause and find her child would mean that she would go to great lengths to maintain an open and respectful relationship with them. Her defensiveness with the PJ is a reflection of the underlying hostility within Kate's own mind because she knows as the perpetrator of a crime, the police are her enemy. This is only my opinion, of course, but I don't believe it's without merit.
