found this horrible tidbit

Quick lime is used for covering of decomposing organic matters in order to avoid putrefaction smells and attraction of flies and various type scavengers.

All due respect, Coldwater, I tend to lean more toward the lime theory than the concrete.

Given the construction link, could your sources have meant lime???

From what I've heard, lime will do the job well. G would know this.

And he would probably also be aware of the ability for specially trained dogs to detect cadaver odor through concrete (or even sonar-type equipment that can "see" solid forms beneath the ground - density differences, I suppose???). Still too risky, IMO.

But then again, desperate times call for desperate measures...

Errm, a naive question:

Do you think, their lawyers are informed of (several ? ) whereabouts of the body ?
I wonder whether the PJ soon have at least forensic traces as result of hints received during the interrogations.
Otherwise their lawyers couldn't adjust their defense strategies against evidence like that, could they ?

Wouldn't need much........

Heph, cremation might not have happend at that particular animal crematory (Hoos') - in fact, IIRC the "labradors" were cremated in another animal crematory in Spain???

It was my immediate conclusion when I read that G had challenged the PJ to find the body. He must have disposed of it in such a thorough, meticulous way (as a physician would tend to do)...

Anyway, why do you think that is so unlikely? Is it the cremation aspect?

Because cremation solves the unweildy body transportation issue, which I have yet to find a theory that holds water with me...

And that brings me to underscore what a previous poster said about the chance of her body being recovered from the sea - way too big of a risk - coupled with the fact that G seemed pretty smugly certain that her body would never be found...

I think that M's body was either cremated, or somehow transported (embalmed) back to UK and buried in a secretly accessible place and known to a few... Almost equally likely, IMO - although neither task was a small endeavor - and they obviously did a decent job.

You bring up a good point, redtabbycat. That being, the McCanns left for the UK in the summer and somehow managed to circumvent the normal check-in procedures at the airport and so managed to bypass the xray machines. Hmmmm...isn't it possible, then, that they might have managed to smuggle Maddie's remains (ie ashes at that point) back to the UK for burial?
This would explain Gerry's smugness and adament claim that that PJ would never find the body.

What makes you say they bypassed airport security? Not likely, imo.

Maybe the body (or remains of it) were driven back to the UK by a third party.

They WERE allowed to bypass Airport Security - FACT.

Different places, where the body was possibly hidden.

I know of a case (about 10 years ago) where a body was chopped up and the remains placed in the foundations of a new house being built.
They were eventually recovered after one of the guilty party blabbed.

They know it would be hard to convict the McCanns and shut up the British Press since the body can't be "put up".
Thats why the investigation is taking so long... they need to get together all pieces of the puzzle without the sample picture.

same old same old wulfie...'the pj klnow they did it but just cant prove it - dastardly mccanns'

this is such a lame attempt

Lime is commonly thought to aid decomposition.

But in fact it is a preservative

So anyone dull enough to dispose of a body that way is only preserving the evidence for the forensic team.

I don't think anyone with a medical degree would use this as a method for that reason.

Not being arguementative here but what do you think happened? Not forgetting the DNA evidence and the dogs findings.

If they know too little, their defense will crash in.
They will get them with (new) forensic evidence, as Coldwater said before.
