If I wasn't petrified of flying I'd go tomorrow, Portugal looks beautiful and going by some of the posters on here the people are pretty great too!
Drive. Ferry Plymouth to Santander. Across North Spain & take motorway from North to South Portugal.............wonderful journey. Very easy drive.
The PJ are doing an excellent job, They must be laughing their "swarthy, Sardine eating" heads off at the McScams PR Campaign and at Clarrie in particular, every day another sighting or another contradicted story, It's now getting so bad that Clarrie's been caught contradicting himself twice within 12 hours, This morning he tells Jon Gaunt that there are no plans for a film, and tonight he's telling James whale there are plans for a film, I know that Gaunt and Whale are arch enemies. but does Clarrie really think that those who listen to Gaunt dont listen to Whale and vice versa, make your mind up you fool.
O.k. PJ you've give them enough rope, now it's time to put us all out of our misery and arrest the lot of them, and that includes the Pink Shirted one aswell.

I believe there's no way Clarence Mitchell will be arrested for doing 'HIS' job.
I believe he's had a different agenda (but not necessarily HIS) for some months now, if you get my drift
The PJ have been so ridiculed in the British press that it is a disgrace. OK they may not have been the most efficient initially, but I can understand their thinking that little Maddie may have gone walkabout. This case must have cost thousands of pounds, and should the Mccanns be found guilty I think the British Gonvernment should reimburse the PJ. Lets not forget that our police are not the most efficient, innocent man shot, no result yet as to who killed Jill dando, some poor sucker taking the rap, ie Barry george. I am sure he is innocent. There are dozens more I could name.
So you callers of the PJ, examine our own police force first. These i***** who say they will boycott Portugal, good , they don't want narrow minded bigots like you there anyway. The portuguese are a lovely people, please do not under estimate their intelligence.
I don't think that the PJ did think that Madeleine went walkabout at all, as they (2 members of GNR) called in the CID within 15 minutes of arriving at MW's reporting a possible kidnapping. They arrived before 12PM, but didn't secure the area. Mark Warners wasn't secured and the Spanish Police weren't notified until 12 hours later (Spanish border 2 hours drive away).
You're right however, in that the British Police Force do make mistakes. All Police Forces make mistakes, however compare the search for Sarah Payne, Jessica and Holly with Madeleine.
Helicopters with thermal imaging equipment were there in an instant (Sarah within an hour of reporting), all known (SOR) paedophiles in the area were pulled in immediately (266 - Holly and Jessica case), hundreds of drivers were questioned and ALL Soham residents (10,000) were at the point of being questioned when the girls were found.
Portugal has no Sex Offender Register. That's very, very worrying especially in light of the fact that Portuguese experts (and others) state that paedophile networks are endemic in Portugal and Interpol has named it as one of the worst offenders in Europe.
Prai da Luz has a population of 1 thousand (in fairness maybe tenfold with tourists) and yet people in nearby apartments have stated that they have never been questioned at all. Mrs Fenn's apartment was broken into 2 weeks (approx) before Madeleine disappeared and she actually grabbed hold of the guy. Did the PJ carry out a DNA search of her apartment? From all accounts (lack of accounts) no.
In light of the lack of SOR should parents be worried about visiting Portugal or are they in your words i***** and narrow minded bigots? Isn't it possible for people to like and admire the Portuguese people, but have valid concerns for their children?
Should the British Government pay for this case, if the McCanns are found to be guilty? I don't think so as we, British tax payers, are paying for NUMEROUS offending foreigners being tried in this country and many eventually being housed in our prisons.
And yes the Portuguese people are, in general, lovely and intelligent. I just wonder what they, in general, think of the 'Amaral' investigation?
You also seem to be aware that many innocent individuals have been found guilty and imprisoned and yet you seem to have condemned the McCanns and they haven't even been charged with any crime never mind being found guilty in a Court of Law!
It shouldn't be forgotten that the PJ were hampered right from the start by political pressure from the UK government. The PJ have complained since about this.
It has been stated - the order was that Abduction was the ONLY possibility that must be accepted for investigation. Added to which, the PJ were not allowed to question the McCanns without a consular official present.
It's also worth remembering that the McCanns and T7 were obstructive and unreliable as witnesses from the word go, I believe the PJ have done a remarkable job. Their steadfastness and diligence.has been awesome!
British politicians weren't involved on the 3rd/4th May when many crucial mistakes were made.
There was no ORDER from anyone. The Portuguese CID decided it was an abduction right off.
Have the Portuguese authorities said the T9 were obstructive and unreliable?
The McCanns could have been questioned at any time and no doubt were at the outset. They (and the rest of the world) have now been waiting for months for the PJ to question them in the UK. We're STILL waiting on the so-called 'obstructive / unreliable' individuals to be questioned!
''Remarkable job. Their steadfastness and diligence has been awesome!''

I'm not arguing with you Nicholass, as you've deliberately and erroneously contradicted every point I've made.

QUOTE:Helicopters with thermal imaging equipment were there in an instant (Sarah within an hour of reporting), ... >>> Do you think that the portuguese police budget is the same as the British one?? Helicopters with thermal imaging equipment would be a dream for the portuguese... What about the UK Gov offering one to the portuguese police in compensation for all the expenses they had because of a British couple that in addition to faking a abduction, have done everything to obstruct their work? Portugal has 11Million ppl, very low crime rate and it has a very low budget that is distributed according to its necessities. The portuguese people are hard workers and give their best even without good equipment. I remember when i was in the army, i joined a simulation of war with NATO trops, there were Americans, British, French, etc, and the Portuguese were highly remarked due to their excellent performance with the most archaic equipment. I was totaly desapointed with the Americans performance that was far from what i believed by seeing in their movies...
QUOTE:Portugal has no Sex Offender Register. That's very, very worrying especially in light of the fact that Portuguese experts (and others) state that paedophile networks are endemic in Portugal and Interpol has named it as one of the worst offenders in Europe. >>> A Sex Offenders database was ordered in 1999 by the Portuguese government to a joint of a German company and Microsoft. During the development process these companies started pointing extra needs to get the project done, asking for more money, but the Gov department responsible for the project was not happy with the product, and decided to take down the project. In 2004 in the Superior Institute of technologies, some university students started developing a system simulating the same objectives. Its was taken in consideration by the Gov, and in 2006 it was decided to request a consultation to ORACLE on the system developed by the students. This system was highly appreciated by ORACLE and IBM that even offered to buy some rights on it. Its is now being implemented by an IBM team, and its supposed to be ready in June. In fact is not true that Portugual has a high sex offending rate. And Pedophilia is not a big issue there, however the Casa Pia case that the media gave a huge attention to, has given to Portugal a bad image on that. Casa Pia was a local case with a dozen people involved in a pedophile ring. Compared to Operation Ore that was a high scale international operation with thousands of people involved, Casa pia got 10 times more media attention just because in Portugal there no habits on covering up cases when there is high profile people involved, so the media there likes to point the mistakes commited by high profile people. The Portuguese people use to say: "Bigger is your position and responsibilities, more people you have looking at you, and bigger are your punishments if you fail..."

And how credible and fair your media is being on this case for you to believe in what they say that people around were not interviewed? I know its easy to throw things at the PJ because even with the leaks you don't know 0,01% of what they have. There will be the time to say "Now you can see..." but unfortunately i'll not find you then to tell you that.

How many of them have bashed your country and police with their powerful back cover and media manipulation?? How many of them have resulted in xenophobic attacks against your people?? I would like to hear your opinion in a reverse situation…
QUOTE: And yes the Portuguese people are, in general, lovely and intelligent. I just wonder what they, in general, think of the 'Amaral' investigation? >>> I've been posting many things about Amaral. I'm not going to repeat it... Amaral was doing is job and had the courage to stand for the truth, even knowing that would cause an avalanche on his way. Yes, he did a mistake for talking about the investigation, which is not tolerated by the PJ, but i as many portuguese can understand the circumstances and pressure he was receiving when trying to do his jog. You should thank him for so many narcotrafic networks that he dismantled, bringing huge quantities of drugs from Africa to Europe. He was not demoted, and he’s back to his normal duties that are the narcotraffic investigation. Nobody should be judged by his heating/drinking habits like he was, and just because you Brits don’t have the “eat well at lunch time and drink some wine” habit, doesn’t mean the Portuguese people after lunch are falling drunk. AND you should thank him for standing for the truth not taking the investigation as the McCanns wanted, looking for justice for Madeleine. How many times would I have to post again and again some of the above facts? There’s people so blind on their ideas that they don’t accept the truth…
Thanks, Beowulf. I wish I could speak English better tso that I could respond to posts like these. It's a shame the way some people behave in this forum with regard to the PJ, the Portuguese and Portugal in general. A real shame.
Portugal is the country in which the Great Miracle of the Sun happened. Most Amercans love Portugal for her saints and explorers, many, many save up their little money to go on pilgramage there.
I thnk the PJ were being 'as wise as serpents, yet simple as doves'.
