In Australia's Herald Sun (dated January 16, 2008, at 12:00am) there is an article on the proposed plans of the Portuguese TV chiefs to begin filming a 26-part series about the disappearance of British toddler Madeline McCann. Responding to these plans, supporters of the McCanns have dubbed these plans as "disgusting".
Further, "Any TV channel who buys it will be paying blood money for it," according to an un-named friend. "People should remember Madeline is a real little girl and not some character from a soap opera. Her parents have real feelings. They will support anything that helps find her, but not downmarket shows aimed at titillating entertainment."
They can sell Madeleine's memory to the highest bidder and earn hundreds of thousands but no-one else can.
Aren't they able to see the positive in this move, many Portuguese people will watch this programme and it could very well jog someone's memory, or do they not want people to remember.
Someone may just remember a little detail that the McCs don't want remembered.

I agree, TheObservantOne, an extensive series, such as the Portuguese TV channel is planning, could well jog someone's memory. And you can be sure, just as the BBC Panorama program told the story principally from the UK view of the case, this series will definitely be from the Portuguese viewpoint, all 26 hours of it, if each segment is to be one-hour long!
If we already know that the PJ has 40,000-plus pages of evidence, I am sure the Portuguese can easily come up with 26 hours of viewing time for the series. It will certainly be interesting to see how the case is handled, given the secrecy rules.
Team McCann must be very concerned for Clarence Mitchell to blast the TV channel in that way.
By the way, what did you think of Mitchell's description of the series as "downmarket shows aimed at titillating entertainment." Wasn't this the same Clarrie, who wanted Kate McCann to pose in a swimsuit as part of the media campaign?
