He noticed the bad street lighting and although it was not completely dark there was enough light to see clearly. As he approached the corner of the McCanns apartment, he saw Gerry appear from the area of the gate. http://themaddiecasefiles.com/post437.html#p437 I find the comment about not completely dark very interesting , if true. I have just posted a picture on another thread, taken at a nearby beach on May 3rd 2007 which was taken approimately 15 minutes before sunset (my estimation) Sunset was 8.22pm and Civil twilight was 8.50pm <!-- m -->http://www.wunderground.com/history/air ... atename=NA<!-- m --> <!-- m -->http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twilight<!-- m --> Quote:
Civil twilight can also be described as the limit at which twilight illumination is sufficient, under good weather conditions, for terrestrial objects to be clearly distinguished If Jez statement is correct about it not being completely dark then he would have met Gerry prior to 8.50pm! Unless he was referring to street lighting. Add to this the comments from ROB Quote:
After we had eaten the starters I needed to go to the toilet so Matt and I decided we would go and check on the children. We walked together I recall that the light was fading I went straight to 5D I could hear E*** was murmuring. I went into the apartment and Matt went into his. I went to the toilet to urinate and then started to clean up E**e and change her, Matt came into my apartment and asked if I needed any help. It was getting darker by this time. I said to go back and tell Jane that E*** was unwell. <!-- l -->post489.html#p489<!-- l --> Quote:
‘After we’d eaten the starters I needed to go to the toilet and Matt and I said we would go and check on the children’, yeah. ‘We altogether recall that the light was fading’, yeah, I think, erm, and we discussed this the other day, erm, and I did mention this to Stuart PRIOR as well, I mean, it says ‘was fading’ there, I think it was probably dark then, but I can’t actually picture the light, you were asking me about the street lights particularly”. 1578 “Yes”. Reply “But when, when I was in the flat after, you know, just a little bit on from here, I can picture Matt when he came back from the flat and certainly he was standing in the doorway saying, you know, ‘Do you need any help or are you alright with E*on your own’, it was pretty, it was, it was pretty dark outside, admittedly standing inside with the light on at this point, but it was pretty dark, it was, erm, it was fairly dark”. 01.25.52 1578 “So are you happy with ‘The light was fading’?” Reply “Yeah, well, yeah, I think it was, erm, the light, the light was, was, was quite, erm, was well on the way towards, erm, you know, dusk there. I don’t know whether that makes it sound like it was just beginning to, beginning to get dark or whether it was actually quite dark. I mean, I think a minute or, you know, or two after this point, where we were walking up, certainly from standing inside the apartment with Matt in the door, it looked, I can picture the background there and it was pretty dark, but then again you flick a light on and it will look dark”. http://themaddiecasefiles.com/post476.html#p476 MATTHEW OLDFIELD (Chivying Paynes) 4078 “What was the lighting like around that area at that time?” Reply “It’s getting dusk, erm, by that time, but not completely dark, erm, it was not as dark as it got later on (inaudible) visibility”. 4078 “And you said it was just turning dark?” Reply “Yeah”. 4078 “Do you remember or can you recall what the street lighting was like around there?” Reply “There’s a street light, and this is all, erm, I couldn’t sort of guarantee this, but my impression is that there was, the street lights were sort of very orangey, erm, sort of fairly orangey light, I think there was one at the top corner and maybe one about halfway up on the right as you came up from the Tapas Restaurant and possibly one on that, on that back bit behind the car park, someway further along”. 4078 “I am just trying to illustrate, you said you were fairly confident that the shutter was shut”. Reply “Yeah”. 00.18.22 4078 “But it was turning dark. I am just trying to sort of illustrate whether there was any light on that area, if you would have been able to see if it was?” Reply “Well it wasn’t murky, I mean, you were close to the shutters, they’re sort of white and they’re lined, I think it’d be fairly obvious if there was a dark gap along the bottom, if they’d been raised particularly”. http://themaddiecasefiles.com/post437.html#p437 JEZ WILKINS Q. Relative to the visibility and lighting conditions; I believe that the time I left it was dusk (the term lusco-fusco used in this statement is a Portuguese expression to define those brief moments when day and night intermingle in an undefined state, dusk, when day isn’t still night) or nighttime when I returned and I do not remember if it was already dark when I spoke with Gerry. There were no weather conditions that impacted visibility. Given the lighting and the atmospheric conditions, I believe that it would have been possible to see if an individual was near but evidently, the greater the distance, the harder the difficulty in seeing. I would say that when I spoke with Gerry it was possible to recognize someone I knew who was passing on foot at the crossing at the top of the hill or to describe approximately someone unknown from that distance At this time he was walking on the right side of the road passing the Tapas bar area to his left. He noticed the bad street lighting and although it was not completely dark there was enough light to see clearly. As he approached the corner of the McCanns apartment, he saw Gerry appear from the area of the gate. http://themaddiecasefiles.com/post466.html#p466 JANE TANNER 4078 “And you have walked up that hill, was it light or dark by that point?” Reply “I think it was getting, I think it was getting dark, I can’t, yeah, it was definitely, because the lights, the street lights were on, so it was definitely, because it was quite, erm, it was quite orangy, I think they were was sort of like a bit of an orangy. It’s so hard to. Yeah, the street lights were definitely on and I think it was, I think it was fairly dark by this time, because I think that’s why I was sort of thinking ‘Oh lets send Russell, send Russell back rather than’, well not, but, you know, I was sort of thinking ‘Oh I can’t be bothered to go up and check, I’m sure I can persuade Russell to go’, but then I decided to go myself, so. So I think, I think it was, I think it was getting, it was dark”. I’m thinking that more from leaving the table, I think this bit, I can remember sort of being quite dark, you know, sort of by the pool, the pool lights and everything being, being quite dark”. Are you happy with the way you have described the lighting that there was a kind of an orangy tint?” Reply “Yeah, as much as I can remember. I mean, I don’t, it was, I’m sure it was, it was, it was dark, it was getting, it was fairly, I’m sure it was fairly, phew. I’m trying to think. Yeah, I’m sure it was fairly dark by that, it was, the street lights were definitely, I’m sure the street lights were definitely. I can’t say, but I think it was, I think it was getting fairly dark”. 4078 (inaudible) Reply “Yeah, fairly dark. I’m sure, phew, I might be completely wrong, but”. 4078 “As far as you can say at the moment, that is what you think?” Reply “Yeah”. I was trying to remember again what you know how dark it was or how you know and it was, I really can’t remember, but twilight definitely, it’d had twilighted to dark |
